At Philip Kingsley, our priority is the health of your hair and scalp. After all, healthy hair is beautiful hair.
Whilst the route to healthy hair lies within consistency and the right regime for your hair texture, we understand it can be difficult to incorporate healthy hair habits into your daily styling and maintenance regime — after all, we are all busy, pressed for time, and sometimes at a loss when it comes to taking care of ourselves.
To make it easier, we asked our expert Trichologists to divulge their five must-have products, as well as their top tips for incorporating them into your daily routine.
1. Frequent pre-shampoo treatments
Pre-shampoo hair masks should be an integral part of everyone’s hair care routine, no matter your hair texture. They are even more essential if you colour your hair, use heated styling tools, swim, or spend a lot of time in the sun. The best masks leave your hair strengthened, hydrated and soft. To treat dry hair, try our cult moisture-boosting, deep-conditioning mask Elasticizer, or Elasticizer Extreme if you have coiled curls or extremely porous hair. If your strands are damaged, try our Bond Builder Restructuring Treatment, an intensely reparative pre-shampoo mask which works beneath the surface of the hair to reconnect and repair bonds broken by chemical processing and heat-styling. Strengthening strands from the inside out, it leaves hair 3X more resistant against damage*, restoring hair health and reducing breakage.

INSTRUMENTAL TEST RESULTS
Our Trichologists recommend treating tresses to two pre-shampoo treatments per week — the results are buildable so get better with frequent use. For example, a mid-week Elasticizer to combat DRYNESS, followed by a spot of weekend DAMAGE repair with Bond Builder Restructuring Treatment.
If this sounds daunting time-wise, try multitasking while you mask. Run your hairbrush under the tap, then brush through to dampen your hair. Apply your treatment, then leave it to work its magic while you run errands, stick dinner in the oven, answer a few emails, or open a bottle of wine.
Sleeping in Elasticizer is also a great way of fitting it into your week. Wrap your hair inside a microfibre turban (as well as holding it in place, this will create steam which encourages the cuticle to lift so the product can penetrate more effectively) then let your Elasticizer do its work overnight. Shampoo out in the morning. You'll awake ready to face the day with a beautiful head of hair!
2. Use a Scalp Toner
Not only are scalp toners a great way of keeping your scalp clear, refreshed and healthy, but they are also super quick to use. After shampooing and conditioning, apply a water-based toner (such as our Flaky Itchy Scalp Toner) evenly to your scalp by parting at approximately 1-inch intervals. Gently massage the product in and you’re done! Follow with your normal finishing products and style your hair as usual.
3. Don't neglect your scalp
Healthy hair grows from a healthy scalp. A healthy scalp is clear of flakes, dead skin cells, oil, sweat, bacteria and residue — all of which can build up during a busy working week. Try combining an exfoliating scalp mask (like our Flaky/Itchy Scalp Anti-Dandruff Scalp Mask) with your weekly Elasticizer treatment to keep your scalp fresh and healthy. For a thorough scalp detox, use Vitamin C Jelly Detoxifying Hair and Scalp Treatment once every 2-3 weeks. Unrivalled at dissolving everyday build-up, it removes 38% more product build-up*, 31% more mineral build-up from hard water* and 11% more pollution than shampoo alone* revealing a healthy, cleansed scalp and soft, shiny tresses. Simply apply to wet hair and your scalp, leave on for five minutes, then cleanse away with your usual shampoo.
Tip 4. Style your hair happy
Using the right products can shave precious minutes off your styling routine. A good styling product can transform frustrating, hard-to-manage hair into a silky, shiny, manageable mane in the blink of an eye. Mousses and sprays can be amazing for adding fullness, while creams and serums will mostly provide control and smoothness. Check out our full styling range to discover the products that are right for you. What's more, because we are Trichologists, every single one of our styling products has added hair health benefits, to moisturise, nourish or protect your strands.
Tip 5. Consult with a Trichologist
You may think that visiting a Trichologist is a last resort, but many people choose to visit one before they experience hair issues, for a hair MOT or to spot any early signs of hair loss. This can be advantageous in the long term by identifying potential problems before they arise and taking steps to keep them at bay. Think of it in terms of a dental check-up: it’s always best to seek prevention rather than cure.
If you have noticed dramatic or worrying changes to your hair or scalp, or it is not behaving the way it used to and you’ve already tried numerous remedies, it might be time to seek professional advice.
